A Mother’s Day Remembrance

Untitled design (48)

This past Sunday we recognized Mother’s Day and mothers. This day is a beautiful family day for many people and yet for some it is one of the most difficult days of the year. One of our pastors, Ted Amey, has compiled a beautiful Mother’s Day litany. He led us in a responsive reading during worship. It is so poignant I want to share it with you.

Mother’s Day Litany

To those who delivered a child this year

            We rejoice with you

To those who are in the trenches with little ones every day

            We appreciate you

To those who are patiently, lovingly and prayerfully guiding their teenagers

            We pray with you

To those who experienced the horrible loss of a child this year

            We mourn with you

To those who experienced loss this year through miscarriage or failed adoptions

            We hope with you

To those who walk the hard path of infertility

            We walk with you

To those who are foster moms, mentor moms, and spiritual moms

            We thank you

To those who have warm and close relationships with your children

            We delight with you

To those who are experiencing disappointment or heart ache with your children

            We sit with you

To those who are separated from their children because of school, missions, jobs or military assignments

            We wait with you

To those who lost their mothers this year

            We grieve with you

To those who will be emptying their nests because of college, new found jobs, or marriage

            We celebrate with you

And to those who are pregnant with new life

            We joyfully anticipate with you

This Mother’s Day and in the days that follow, we walk with you. Mothering is not for the faint of heart.

We have real heroes in our midst. We thank you!

Shalom,
Alan
