Today begins a five-day focus on the mission activities of Asbury Church. We call it the Global Impact Celebration. Every other year over 70 of our mission partners are invited to join us on the Asbury campus as we celebrate our partnership with them.
You are invited to our activities, which will take place each day. At 6 p.m. today (Wednesday) we will have an opening worship celebration along with a special children’s program. We will have a special recognition of our missionary partners and hear a message from Herbie Newell, President/Executive Director of Lifeline Children’s Services. Lifeline has a powerful ministry to orphans on a global scale.
On Thursday from 6-8 p.m. we will have “Meet a Missionary.” After gathering in our sanctuary, you may choose to go a breakout session to hear from a missionary of your own choosing. We have men’s and women’s lunches from 11:30 – 12:30 on Friday. The men will hear former Asbury pastor Jimmy Aycock and the women from Lauren. Lauren is a homegrown Asbury missionary serving in Asia. From 6 – 8 p.m. we will gather at the Huntsville Farmer’s Market, with Huntsville First United Methodist Church, for a sweet potato drop and then hear from Blake Dorning, Madison County Sheriff.
On Friday, we will host a Prayer and Mission Conference from 8:30 – 4:30. We have an incredible lineup of speakers: Pastor Eugene Cho, Dr. Florence Muindi, Pastor Peter Xu Yongze, Richard Foster and Nathan Foster. We conclude with Sunday morning worship: our own Bishop Debra Wallace-Padgett will be speaking in traditional services and Dr. Edwin Leon in contemporary services.
