I received a call at 6:13 this morning from my wife Carla. She is In Panama City, Florida, with her family. Carla’s dad was placed under the care of Hospice two days ago. This morning, she told me that her dad had just breathed his last; it was peaceful and merciful.

I heard not too long ago that the best way to begin your day is by making your bed. The rationale is that you will have an immediate sense of accomplishment and that psychologically you are reminding yourself that your rest is done and now is the time to carpe diem (seize the day). Now, if you are married, and you and your spouse begin your day at different times, this word of wisdom becomes more complicated. I have a suggestion that can easily be applied to any person, regardless of circumstances.
Maybe you saw in the news that on New Years’ Day a Nigerian businessman unveiled the largest statue of Jesus on the continent of Africa. Obinna Onuoha commissioned the 28-foot tall “Jesus de Greatest” statue in 2013. He describes the statue as a symbol of peace for war torn Nigeria.
